One positive Iâll grant it is that it functioned as a backdoor pilot to Strange New Worlds.
Itâs my favourite season just for that.
Made me laugh-cry how the first two seasons of Discovery ended on a shot of the damned Enterprise!
Kept trying to parse âDSCâ as âDeep Space Cixâ, and thinking that didnât make any sense. For multiple reasons.
I think Iâm gonna goâŚ
The Klingons in season 1, thoughâŚ
âtâKOOOOOVma!â
Werenât they just supposed to be pre augment virus Klingons? I liked their portrayal for the most part, even thought the klingon with subs was kinda cool. I have a lot of grievances with Discovery, but not that
Lower Decks confirmed that theyâre from an alternate universe.
Must have missed that one, thanks
Thatâs not exactly what happened. The Lower Decks episode just told us that there is another universe where the Klingons look like that. That doesnât mean they never looked like that in our universe. One of the other things the Klingons turn into is an Ancient Klingon Sailing Barge. I took it to mean technology and culture had progressed differently in those universes.
Indeed. The same episode showed the Cerritos transforming into a Galaxy class ship, but no one takes that to mean that the Galaxy class only ever existed in an alternate universe.
the sound of Stamets approaching quickly
I love Season 2
Also this will probably be one of the last times I comment on TenForward. I left lemmy.world and set up !Risa@lemmy.dbzer0.com for the unaware
W-why?
c/Risa was made as an alternative to r/Risa, because Reddit.
c/tenforward was made as an alternative to c/risa, because Reddit mods on Lemmy.
Now thereâs another c/Risa on another instance? What drama did I miss?
c/Risa@lemmy.dbzer0.com was created as an alternative to TenForward due to 10F being on Lemmy.world. This place is still awesome and I want nothing but success for it. I, however, canât really in good conscience add to lemmy.world anymore. Why? This Post (and the updates) explain.
tl;dr is that there is a moderator on LW who has been running rampant for months abusing the hell out of his position. I made a post about it because I was like âdafuq is going onâ. Admins then publicly commented in the thread to say that they were totally against this behavior but then havenât really done anything about it since. Left a really bad taste in my mouth, especially due to the American mod actively silencing Canadians and then spreading misinformation about Canadian politics. I then reconsidered as to whether I wanted to stay on lemmy.world and the answer to that was a no. So I left and made a different community so that I can still post my Trek memes. Itâs not meant to compete with 10F or steal subscribers or posters. I just want to post memes but donât want to do it on LW.
Wow, yeah, he really does come off as a total asshole. Maybe itâs time for me to block off lemmy.world if a mod is allowed to continue harassing users like that
I had only just heard about this this morning from another post made by .world admins saying that person had been delisted as a mod.
I canât find that post anymore, but now I understand why. For all of .worldâs problems, they are at least listening to people and fixing things.
I completely understand your position. The things Iâve learned about some of the people that are still controlling .world is something I wish I had known before making communities here⌠but itâs not quite enough to make me go through the effort of picking everything up and leaving.
I hate that an already splintered community is splintering further, but Iâll sub to yours as well. Best of luck.
That would have been this post. He wasnât delisted as a mod, just taken off of the community team. Heâs still a mod. They havenât done anything or listened to anyone. Problems about this dude have been ongoing for months and I made my post like 2 weeks ago. Head admin of LW immediately said that no, he didnât want JL being the face of the instance. Then the admins have been dragging their feet. They say they donât have the justification to remove them but they do
Iâm not suggesting anyone else pick up and leave. Iâm just doing it myself
Okay, I understand. What a shame that theyâre already so political about making straight-forward decisions.
I must not be subscribed to the right communities because I knew nothing about this 12 hours ago.
Iâm just so tired of all the time traveling bullshit.
When time travel is introduced, it tends to make the entire plot line pointless.
I also consider time travel a fantasy element, because our understanding of causality does not allow for time travel back in time.
Forward in time is most piratically done with cryo/stasis, âflyingâ into the future is simply bullshit.
So IMO Discovery was OK in the beginning, but devolved into nonsense.
Giant Space Water Bears was my limit. I watched the entire first season, but I found it to be too ridiculous.
Yeah the way they did it, but reaching relativistic speeds outside warp sounds like a feasible way to jump to the future given the technology dreamed up for star trek
DSC? I always call it ST:D as it too burns in uncomfortable places.
Iâve stuck with DISCO. Highlights the silliness of it all.
That or discotrek
Yep.
Was that the space baby season? or was that the weird third one?
I rewatched it a while back, and for the most part itâs a much stronger season than I remembered. The last couple of episodes were frantic and nonsensical enough that it coloured my view of the rest of it.
Still probably agree that itâs the worst season, but itâs not that bad.
The second season finale was actually great though, if only because the climax was visually very experimental and cinematic. I feel like Discovery often took chances, and they didnât often pay off, but that one really did. It looked like they blew the entire seasonâs visual effects budget in that one episode.
I thought the storytelling in that finale was pretty bad in general, but youâre right that the visuals were spectacular. That wormhole sequence that called back to TMP was absolutely beautiful.
I still havenât watched season 5, so I canât say for sure.
I enjoyed Discovery overall, but I really preferred when the show was in the 23rd century instead of the 32nd century.
I canât believe Iâm being nostalgic for a 14 episode season, but early Discovery still dabbled in one off episodic adventures or 2-3 episode mini arcs. The later seasons were short enough that they really had to commit to their world ending plot lines. Running around the mycelial network for a couple of episodes was generally more memorable than, âWe leaned a bit more about the 10C.â Plus Season 2 got us Jett!
The real world production drama fundamentally broke the seasonâs puzzle box and left some pretty glaring plot holes, but that finale was stellar.
I disagree with you, but for the same reasons? I felt like season 3, when theyâre first getting into the future, exploring, and meeting the people there, was the most like Star Trek. I also think the Mycelial drive is a good fit for the future setting
Season 3 was excellent as well! I wish 4 and 5 had a bit more futureness to them, but Discovery overall was good in my book.
So I agree for the most part, however I miss the early seasons of DSC. I feel like it really went off the rails (for me) starting in season 3. I feel like it started with a decent season and every season after it was a step down, with hints of greatness here and there, like trying to figure out how to communicate with that 10-C(?) species.
Agreed on all counts - me and my other half were down to just getting it done with at the start of S4, but couldnât bring ourselves to even start S5.
I rather enjoyed the first two seasons.
STD is trash overall. It has no redeeming qualities. Saying that one or another season is âthe worstâ means little to nothing when the best it has to offer is still some of the worst sci-fi Iâve ever seen⌠Until Picard somehow surpassed thatâŚ
âSTDâ is the most deserving acronym.
It features space tardigrades and thatâs a redeeming quality
Something they got away with stealing from someone else.
wait what who did they steal it from? i want to have an astral multibear marathon
It was a video game called Tardigrades. Not sure if it was ever fully released in the end.
yeah last update was a little under ten years ago. i think itâs dead
