The painted pole is still there but the clock is gone.
Or the clock is now digital and no one understands what the numbers on the pole were for, but are scared to remove them in case it breaks things.

And here I thought it was referring to the small print on the inside. Then it hit me.
The irony being that it would have probably been easier to re hang the clock further to the right
