Isn't that the theory as to how Chinese/Japanese characters started? They were first perfected/written on bamboo and trees.

PD: I'm not sure it it's been revoked but some years ago it was legal to hunt Basque fishermen for sport in Iceland because we were so aggressive with our finishing that we were taking all their fish. Fun fact xD
