photo of large flatscreen tv showing video game where Mii character holds a sword and stands on a beach. the user would have to press a button to start playing and beat up the incoming characters. the background of the video game is a fresh sky, palm trees and a vulcano. the game is Wii sports resort: sword fighting. the screen show a panel with the users name "Maria" and their Niveau, whichbis their level: 196. around the tv the Wii and a bit of a soft couch is visible alongside a candle and a switch dock and some cables.

got my wii working today. has been sitting unused for 4 years since i got it cuz of terrible video connectors. now i got pretty fine 60hz 420p video and audio output thanks to some cheapo converter cable. i, of course, started pirating software like crazy, rhythm heaven is still pulling.

The Curse of Depth in Large Language Models (arxiv.org)

Community iconc/technology@lemmy.ml by
☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆@lemmy.ml

There’s a really interesting quirk in modern architecture that a lot of people have been noticing lately referred to as the Curse of Depth in the paper. Basically if you look at popular models like Llama or Qwen or DeepSeek you will find that the deeper layers are surprisingly useless. You can completely prune away huge chunks of the later transformer blocks without actually hurting the performance of the model. The representations in these deep layers end up looking practically identical to each other, and it’s a massive waste of GPU hours because we are training billions of parameters that end up doing almost nothing.
