From what I’ve seen, the game is lovingly crafted and is kind of a mix between old-school Zelda titles and open world games like Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring. The developers have stated that they’ve been inspired by Dark Souls during the development and it shows both in terms of combat as well as exploration.

Have any of you checked this out?

It’s the same developer as Shovel Knight, which is supposed to be incredible. I should pick them both up.
I had been looking at it the past few days, and after seeing this post I decided to pick it up. Gameplay is fun so far although I’m still pretty early on. What I can say is I am absolutely loving the chiptune/8-bit soundtrack!
Awesome, enjoy!
I am extremely tempted but I also know my absolute weakness with and dislike for platformers, so I am trying to save myself the frustration. It does look great though.
The platforming can get a little tricky because of the top-down view, but the developers made some tweaks to make it easier. I saw a video by them detailing the “guardrails” to make platforming easier. Plus a LOT of tweakable options to make the game more accessible
Okay, good to know! I love good accessibility options in games. And I think… I can get into platforming if it’s not super punishing. Years and years and years ago I played Rayman Legends with my sister because she loves that game, and I had a great time with it. But then recently playing Blasphemous and GRIME I was not having much fun with the platforming. So I don’t know.
I’ll keep it in mind, I haven’t actually been playing any games at all for the past few days, so we’ll see when I pick it up again if I keep going with Darkwood or pick up something else.
I can’t tell you if the platforming is super punishing, but it certainly can get tricky judging by the bits of videos I’ve seen. Like, platforming whilst burrowing inside the ground to dodge attacks from flying enemies who follow you whom you try to fend off whilst not falling off the platform. But that might be the extent of how difficult it can get. 🤷🏻♂️
Don’t remind mee of the gaaame D: it’s been living rent-free in my head ever since you’ve mentioned it, and I don’t think I can stomach playing it.
On that note, I’m going to download it right now
Ah, I thought you were playing Mina yourself as well! That sounds very bullet-hellish, though, which is unfortunately also not my genre. Tracking multiple objects at once is something I struggle with, coincidentally one reason I hate gank fights in Souls games. We’ll see what I end up doing. It’s not like I have a shortage of games on my to-do list anyway…
And uh, enjoy? As much as Darkwood is a game to enjoy, if you know what I mean haha. Turn out the lights and use your best headphones.
I ddownloaded it right before Darkwood and played for around 5 minutes, and I got an instant headache from the chip-tune music and the 8-bit
musicgraphics. However, I’m also sick, so that’s probably not the most conclusive statement.I don’t particularly enjoy gank fights myself, but there are a few I don’t mind, like Shadows of Yharnam. I get it for sure, tho.
Thanks, let’s see how long I last 🙂🫠
Ah, that sucks! I get it though, some things just hit your brain the wrong way and there is not much you can do about that. Let’s hope it’s just a case of being sick temporarily.
Let me know how your forest trip goes. You’re going into it with a bit more knowledge of what to expect than I was (I was pretty much unspoiled apart from having heard it was both scary and great) so you’ll probably be fine. I had no idea what I was in for so I had to take a break after getting through the first night, haha. And that night is a softball to start you off nicely!
There’s a lot of accessibility options including the ability to change the speed the entire game runs at outside of the player character.
Yeah, it’s great.
I'm a bit tight on money this week, but as soon as I get my next salary I'm going to snag it. Perfect to run it on my smartphone via GameNative, too.
It’s great but a bit hard and you don’t know where to go. But I love it.
