Is that 600m from bedrock or sea level? Curious how much of that is just sand.

I can’t find anywhere that says. My feeling is it’s sand all the down to the bedrock because there are some very deep valleys. We drove all over them in a dune buggy and there was no bedrock showing anywhere, just sand.

The three tallest dunes in the world are in that general region. #2 is not far at all! Cerro Blanco at 1176m

Frank Herbert got the inspiration to write about a Desert Planet after he spent time researching sand dunes and how they move.

I wondered about that. Standing on the top of one of the dunes, I was thinking it looked like Arrakis.

Our planet really is pretty cool. Shame we’re slowly ruining it.
