On May 25, 2020, the Minneapolis Police Department murdered George Floyd, just five miles from my home in northeast Minneapolis. This injustice sparked the monumental resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, the largest social movement in U.S. history, with its epicenter in the Twin Cities.
On the heels of mass protests demanding justice for those killed by federal agents and demanding ICE out of our communities, the capitalist state has escalated its assault with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) executing ICU nurse Jeffrey Pretti in broad daylight.
I work for a nonprofit law firm, and I used to enjoy working with them because my co-workers were easy to get along with, and I felt like my work was meaningful. I wasn’t just filling the pockets of some rich guy who wanted more money, I was helping low-income people in the right direction to obtain an attorney when no one else could help them.
In all our long investigation we have been advancing to this simple truth: That as land is necessary to the exertion of labor in the production of wealth, to command the land which is necessary to labor, is to command all the fruits of labor save enough to enable labor to exist.
I created these guides as I was dispondent in the direction the world is going and feeling helpless. Besides the political movements, I feel the next best thing is to promote businesses that don’t prioritise profits over people.
That’s one of those general election issues where they only pull out of storage just before the general election. Like gay rights, abortion, wages. And fold them up neatly and stow them away until the next general election.
