I take it that if you don’t push hard in to the metal rods, it’s a pretty safe operation. Much different than if the mine / trap is designed to be triggered by a lone human.
Still a nervous procedure, but one can at least proceed with reasonable confidence.
Only if by push you mean several tons of metal ramming into it, yeah. I doubt a human could set it off even if they wanted to. They don’t want these mines going odd every time a seal, or driftwood, or whatever runs into it. They want it to go off when a large military vessel hits it.
Good point in general, altho there’s also statistically the chance of manufacturing defect or accruing damage en situ. I have zero problem with these guys being very careful with both the rods and attending to the innards…
They are in a smol rowboat, the pic was taken from a higher pov - it would be crazy if from a ship disarming a real mine (it’s prob just a pic from training, showing some platonic doggy).
