Explanation: In 1791, the USA, during one of its early (early because the USA was just founded, not because European colonists hadn’t been fighting previously) wars against Native Americans, suffered a massive and humiliating defeat by Chief Little Turtle, coming after a series of bumbling military actions and unforced diplomatic errors by corrupt high-ranking cretins that could have avoided a war (or at least the continuation of the war) entirely.
Unfortunately, the victory would be short-lived, as the message recieved by the USA was less “Stay away” and more “We’re going to lose legitimacy if we lose a war.” The US would reduce the power of the states and implement a more professional military system to prosecute the war, and a peace treaty would be signed on terms favorable to the USA shortly afterwards.
