There’s been a couple of minor dust-ups on mastodon about the conduct of so-called “big accounts” there that I do not care to comment on, but it has got me thinking — do we even have “big accounts” on the threadiverse (Lemmy/piefed/mbin)? I don’t think there’s any handle I’ve seen where I’ve been like “oh yeah, that person.” Am I just bad at remembering usernames, or does the community/thread style of discussion remove all continuity for a single account?

What I mean is: You can type an entire novel on a computer, and oopsie a random cosmic bitflip and system crashes and now its all gone. Or you do a lot of filming and the digital file can get corrupted. Where as stuff like, a typewriter, it’s less likely to just be all gone due to some malfunctions. Same with film, a cosmic bitflip can’t delete all your footage.

I recabled my stereo today

Community iconc/dull_mens_club@lemmy.world by
HakFoo@lemmy.sdf.org

The back side of an old fiberboard stereo cabinet. Cables are draped throughout the scene. Most of the cables are a bluish purple colour and go into an opening at the top left. the other ends of the cables are plugged into sockets on the back of a receiver and have small white tags indicating which device they're associated with. At the top left, a length of black plastic sheath hides most of the cables dangling from a variable-voltage regulator designed for PC case fans.

The local electronics shop had a special on RCA cables, so I could replace the motley assortment of mostly too long and mismatched cables with consistent looking ones that shouldn’t break apart in my hand or pop off as easily.

The United States is a global superpower, and its military trains for war in every domain. During my years as a military educator, I saw American officers wrestle with any number of scenarios designed to challenge their thinking and force them to adapt to surprises. One case we never considered, however, was how to betray and attack our own allies. We did not ask what to do if the president becomes a threatening megalomaniac who tells one of our oldest friends, Norway, that because the Nobel Committee in Oslo refuses to give him a trophy, he no longer feels “an obligation to think purely of Peace” and can instead turn his mind toward planning to wage war against NATO.

Hi! I’ve been following the #buyeuropean movement since about a year and amidst current political events I felt the need to deepen my engagement. All existing lists and guides have been a great resource but I still felt like they didn’t have an impact big enough on my consumer habits. This is why I did some research on everyday products in my local supermarkets for us people in Switzerland. The following lists have been created with the goal to endorse products and alternatives that are as local as possible and belong to companies that are somewhat established but without a horrendous reputation. This is why Nestlé is in the avoid section but if you don’t care much about that you can see them as alternatives instead. Keep in mind that this is a list written by me, a single person, so it’s likely to be influenced by my consumer habits, my lifestyle, my location etc. If anyone has more recommendations or finds something was ill-researched, you’re most welcome to contribute. I might edit this list later on myself. To the list:
